Content Creation:
A few tips:
Content creation is one of the most diffictul parts of web development. The key is not to worry about it too much at first, it can always be changed! Its important to get your site up so you can see everything in context. Your package comes with two free hours of maintenance so you'll have more than enough time to switch content out when necessary.
One of the best places to start is with your present marketing material. Go through the marketing material and pull out the information that you feel will be relevant to your normal web browser.
Think about your user's experience - what information would people expect to see on your website?
Think about your goals - what is it that you want your website to accomplish? Gear your content in the direction of accomplishing those goals. For instance: "I want to sell my service" - your content (especially your home page content) should be your best sales pitch.
Think about your action items - what is it that you want people to DO when they visit your site? Do you want them to call? Email? Visit your physical location? Receive information or updates?
- Your homepage is your most valuable realestate - its everyone's first impression of your website. A common mistake is placing the "About Us" on the home page. Imagine how you'd feel if, when you walked into a store, you had to sit through a history of that institutions existence before going any further...the first thing your client sees needs to be something that lets him or her know that they came to the right place!
- Statistically you have 7 seconds to capture your client before he or she moves on to another site. Don't let this worry you - all you need to make sure of is that your site immediately details exactly what your business or organization has to offer.
- Don't forget contact information!
- Tell your users what you want - if you want them to call, say "Call us now!" if you want them to buy, say "Buy now!". Prompting is one of the most successful techniques in the world of digital business.
- Be fun! Strict rhetoric and business jargon is soooo web 2.0. Let people know that you're a real business run by real people.
